About The Audi A4
The mechanical platform of this car will also be used to derive other cars of the Volkswagen group , from the first series the Volkswagen Passat B5 and the first generation of the Skoda Superb were derived , from the third series the SEAT Exeo was created , while the fourth generation makes use of the modular “MLB” platform which made its debut in the Audi A5 . Worthy of note is the front suspension which since the first series makes use of a high wishbone with a virtual steering axle and then maintained for all generations.
Generations
It should be noted that the second and third generation bore the same design code with the same bodywork. This is because, although the two generations are indicated with different abbreviations, in reality the third is in practice a profound restyling of the second, so the basic structure remained practically the same.
Sports versions
Sporty versions were also derived from the normal A4 range, called S4 , exuberant but not extreme, and RS4 , capable of impressive performance and burning shots. It should be noted that the very first Audi to carry the S4 abbreviation was actually based on the latest generation of the Audi 100 . With the revolution in the change of the commercial names of Audi models, which took place in 1994, the identification codes of the sports versions of the various models in the range began to be obtained by replacing the A with an S or with the initials RSin the case of the more powerful versions. For this reason, the sports versions of the Audi A4 were called S4 and RS4 , while the legacy of the first 100 S4 took the acronym S6 as in the meantime the Audi 100 underwent a restyling and changed its name to A6 .
The bodywork variants with which the Audi S4 has always been envisaged have always followed the variants envisaged for the quieter A4 range. As for the RS4 , however, it was almost always produced in the Avant version , that is the station wagon, with the exception of the version based on the B7 , also produced as a sedan and convertible. There has never been, however, an RS4 based on A4 B6 .
